Rugged Resilience Carving
Salvaged Western Red Cedar from a forest fire (over 20 years ago) site near Barkley Sound, BC. This slab itself shows the strength and everlasting soundness of Western Red Cedar in the harsh PNW climate. I was inspired by the local coastlines unique structure that encapsulate a constantly changing balance of sensitive ecology and rugged resilience.
I saw a natural flow and representation of sea to sky in the grain of this slab, and snapped a line across the middle to first determine the horizon.
Carving is free-hand and stained black to tie in the natural char (Salvaged log was burnt) on the live edge. Burn char on live-edge sealed with epoxy and raw wood is finished with a hard-wax oil.
72x36x2.5 - 55lbs - Epoxy reinforced hardware and cables for hanging.
Delivery to lower BC mainland or Vancouver Island can be discussed. Please contact for further information regarding shipping.
